Kadin, who has already undergone several kidney transplants, still has a long journey ahead of him. She said the toys help calm youngsters at the hospital, and she thanked the community for all the donations. To top it all off, Heidi Hoven collected cell phone chargers and other items that parents waiting for their children at the hospital might not remember to bring with them. They also gave Kadin a mountain bike for his efforts. Allen Devers, who works for the Moorpark Police Department, wanted to help too and put out a call to fellow officers to collect toys. He helped organize a drive at Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School, where he is a student, and at Arroyo West Active Learning Academy in Moorpark, where his mom is a teacher. Kadin got the idea for a toy drive when he noticed the cabinet that was supposed to have toys for the young patients was nearly empty. Then he headed to the hospital with his mother Heidi, his grandmother Joan and his 7-year-old brother Ian. 'I hope the children like them,' Kadin said as the last toys were stuffed in. The toys were the last of the 600 collected during a toy drive that Kadin spearheaded and that was supported by the community, especially the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. The toys were headed to Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA, where Kadin, who has a rare kidney disease, receives treatment.
